Celebrating Freedom

Just as it was true 235 years ago for the signers of the Declaration of Independence, it is true today – freedom isn’t free.  June has been the deadliest month in Iraq since 2008, with 14 troops dying.  As we celebrate our independence on July 4, we must remember the men and women who preceded us, who put their own lives at risk that we might have those rights set forth in our Declaration: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  It is because of their sacrifice that we are able to celebrate, and we should never forget that the freedom we enjoy is envied by many who seek to steal it from us.  There are 14 families who will watch July 4 arrive with heavy hearts, but there are millions who will celebrate without fear due to the sacrifice of these men.  To those in the military and in all areas of law enforcement, who protect our freedom from criminals at home and abroad, we offer our deepest thanks.  Here’s hoping you are able to enjoy a little freedom on the 4th, too!

Happy Independence Day!
